I know from my own painful experiences that addiction can be a very destructive force in the life of an individual, and in the lives of those near and dear to the individual who suffers from addiction. But I also know from personal experience that there is hope. There is a solution.
We need to understand the source of addiction, as well as how to deal with it now that it is upon us. Both the person suffering from addiction, as well as family members, could benefit from learning about addiction. Everyone in the family is affected by the disease, only in different ways. Each family member, as well as the addicted person, has different roles they have played in the family dynamics, and each now must relearn how to live a healthier lifestyle.
If you have a problem with drugs, alcohol, gambling or other addictions
Are you sick and tired of being sick and tired? I know the guilt and remorse one will sometimes feel after doing the things we do. Whether its alcohol, pills, gambling, shopping... Ever swear to yourself that you were going to quit then and there, and mean it, only you weren't able to stop for any length of time? (Sometimes you were back at it the very same day.) Does this sound familiar to you?.
I have a pretty good idea of what you are going through, because I struggled with addictions, too. But take note: I lived through it. I am sober now and enjoying my life. You can do the same, if you make some changes in your life.
Stop beating yourself up. You know you are basically a good person. We have all made some bad choices in our lives. But you can't do this alone.
It's time to make better choices. Do yourself a favor and make an appointment right now. Stop "thinking about it," and do it.
"If nothing changes, nothing changes."
If you are a family member or a supporting friend of the person suffering from addiction:
You, too, need to learn about addiction, whether or not your loved one gets into recovery. You will learn how to best support the addicted individual, and, more importantly, how to get your life back.
"You didn't cause it, you can't contol it, and you can't cure it."
Addiction is a progressive, and sometimes fatal, disease. Like cancer, it needs to be treated, and the sooner, the better. I may be of some help. Make an appointment now, and come with an open mind and a willing heart.

"Fame or self: Which matters more?
Self or wealth: Which is more precious?
Gain or loss: Which is more painful?
He who is attached to things will suffer much.
He who saves will suffer heavy loss.
A contented man is never disappointed.
He who knows when to stop does not find himself in trouble.
He will stay forever safe." --Ch. 44; Tao de Ching
