COOK is a Licensed Addiction Counselor specializing in individual, couples and family therapy in the field of Addiction treatment and recovery, and maintains a private practice in Alexandria, Louisiana. He also is certified as an Advanced Alcohol and Drug Addiction Counselor, and a Certified Compulsive Gambling Counselor. Mr. Cook worked for two and one half years on the Co-Occuring Treatment Unit of Red River Addictions Complex, treating clients with both addictions and mental health issues. Steve is an Acupuncture Detoxification Specialist, licensed to practice by the Louisiana Board of Medical Examiners. Steve currently serves as the administrator at Edgefield Recovery Center near Cheneyville, La.
He serves on the Louisiana State Bar Association's Alcohol and Drug Abuse Committee, and is a volunteer Member of the Louisiana Lawyers Assistance Program (LAP). As a monitor for the LAP program, he is charged with monitoring judges and other attorneys who may need help in their recovery. He also conducts Aftercare groups for those professionals (Doctors, pharmacists, nurses, attorneys, etc...) who are required to attend Aftercare as a condition of their continued ability to practice their profession.
Cook provides therapy to both the individual suffering from addiction, and to the people who provide support to the addicted individual. In addition to therapy, Cook is consulted to provide evaluations on individuals for DWI court, custody cases, OCS cases and other matters where an alcohol or drug evaluation is needed. Because he cannot ethically serve his counseling clients in a dual capacity, he does not provide any legal services to clients who seek his counseling services.

Steve is an interactive, solution-focused therapist. His therapeutic approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help clients effectively address addiction and personal life challenges. He integrates complementary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client. With compassion and understanding,he works with each individual to help them build on their strengths and attain the personal growth they are committed to accomplishing.
